Our History

Propelled by clarity of vision, unshakeable perseverance and a firm commitment to provide for his community, a small-scale trader from South Sumatera ultimately became a business owner who grew into an industrialist and oversaw the creation of a conglomerate while all throughout giving back to others as a philanthropist. Today the Bakrie group of companies is one of Indonesia’s oldest and largest diversified groups, with interests in mining, oil and gas, infrastructure, plantations, telecommunications, media, infrastructure and property.

With 10 publicly listed vehicles, the group has a combined market capitalization of around US$11 billion and generally accounts for 30% of daily trading volume on Indonesia’s stock exchange, where it was the first to go public. The group also is distinguished by having the first Indonesian entity listed on London’s stock exchange, signaling its emergence as a global business. Indeed, it has been a well-traversed journey since the late Achmad Bakrie pioneered Indonesia’s steel pipe manufacturing industry in 1942.

Today the Bakrie group of companies continues to expand its businesses, adapt to shifting market preferences and contribute to community through its social platforms. As it aims to capitalize on exciting opportunities available in Indonesia resulting from its rising position in the world economy, Bakrie Global will uphold this tradition, ever cognizant of the following milestones
